Your position at a poker table is quite important, and many players underestimate this. In fact, your poker table position can make or break the game for you, and can be the difference between winning and losing.
Here are the various poker table positions and what it means in the game:
Early position
This is probably the least favourable seat at the poker table. This is because on any given hand in the current round, you will probably be one of the first to act. If you are seated in early position you need to be more selective about the hands you play because you will receive the least information on your opponents at each stage of the hand.
Middle position
This seat is more favourable than early position, but less favourable than late position. This means that you can play a few more hands in middle position than you can in early position. However, if all the players in the early position folded, you will then be the first to act on each round. So keep this in mind when deciding on your game play.
Late position
This position could be one of the best seats. This is because there is a high chance that you will be one of the last to act on each round. This is the best time to loosen up your starting hands a bit, but still keep your mind on the game. Just because you have a good position does not mean you can slack on your starting hands.
The Button
The position is the best seat because on every round except the flop, you are the last to act. If you are seated here, enjoy the freedom of playing as many hands as possible (within reason). In this seat, you have a big advantage in the hand because you are always the last to act.
